Eichler Homes was a residential merchant-building company that my grandfather, Joseph Eichler, founded in the late 1940s in the San Francisco Bay Area. It specialized in architect-designed, modern-style tract homes that were affordable for average homeowners. By the time it ceased business in the late 1960s, it had built more than 11,000 single-family homes, primarily in the San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles metro areas, plus several high-rise apartment buildings. The photos in this gallery represent Eichler homes in Silicon Valley that have either been remodeled or rebuilt. At present, I am only showing exteriors in this galley, but will add some interiors as I acquire a suitable range of such material, as well as Eichlers from other parts of the Bay Area and California.
